Our First Stumbling Steps
Our first "job" was to help Jen's parents with some major maintenance to their house in Alaska. One problem, we were still in Texas and summer was getting shorter by the minute. We finally left Texas, and made our way north, 4500 miles later we were there. I'm not going to lie we did spend a couple weeks camping, fishing, and hanging out with friends (it was our 20 year High School Reunion). Then came the "fun"!
First thing we had to deal with was a few years ago they had a pipe break in the laundry room while they were out of town, so we had to demolish the laundry room so we could rebuild it. Before we could rebuild it we had to re-roof the house. Our only option for the roof was roll roofing. We also need to add some supports to some of the roof overhang. To prepare the surface for the new roofing we decided to add a layer of plywood sheathing. We got some much needed help from our nephew Lane and his buddy Steve. Once the sheathing was up we put 30 lb felt over the 2400 square foot surface. Then the much anticipated August/September rains started YAY! During the rainy days we spent our time rebuilding the laundry room and master bathroom. New insulation, sheetrock, flooring, cabinets, texture and paint. Then luckily we got a break in the rain and it was back up on the roof. Some other friends came by and helped install the roll roofing and did other cleaning and organizing. We also laid new carpet and painted in several rooms. Thanks needs to go out to a great neighbor that lent us a paint sprayer which made the painting go much faster, we even had enough time to stain the exterior of the main house. Our awesome cousin came over a few times to help Jen get her parents paperwork in order, it had been several years since there had been any proper filing, I'm not sure if we could have gotten it done without her. There was so much done over such a short period I'm amazed we got it done, but it wasn't possible without all the help we got from friends and family, so from the bottom of our hearts...Thank you!
